OUR HISTORY
The Curious Brewery was established in 2011, and we opened our state of the art Brewing facility in Ashford, Kent, in 2019.
Our dedication is to make exceptional beers and ciders. This dedication has resulted in our Curious Brew Lager being awarded Gold at the 2019 World Beer Awards. Later that same year, The Curious Brewery was also named Brewery of the Year at the prestigious International Beer Challenge.
We are very fortunate to have our brewery in Ashford, Kent. Our site is a place of historical significance dating back to the second world war, where on this site stood Beaver Road Primary School. On March 24th 1943, the area was subject to a bombing raid given the proximity to the railway line. On that morning, Miss Ellen Adams was the school teacher responsible for alerting the staff and children of any impending danger. On this morning at around 10 am, Ellen heard the air raid sirens and quickly sprung into action and evacuated all of the classes and staff from real danger to the local air-raid shelter. Some hours passed, and the all-clear was given; when Ellen and the children emerged from the air-raid shelter, they were met with utter devastation. The school and railway station were raised to the ground, and thankfully, no teachers or school children were hurt on this particular occasion.
Fast Forward 76 years to the opening of the Curious Brewery. To mark the significance of our heroic quick-thinking school teacher, it is common for each new brewery to name their brewhouse after someone important, and so we’re proud and honoured to call our brewhouse; Miss Ellen Adams.
